Match Report - 07 Jan 2012, Phoenix Hockey Club Ladies 2nd XI lost to Chelmsford
Unfortunately Phoenix had to play the game against Chelmsford with 9 players due to some unforseen circumstances coming up earlier in the morning.
The team were happy to get a game in after the Christmas break and it was Phoenix who made a strong start with the majority of the possession taking place in Chelmsford's half. It wasn't long before Phoenix were awarded a penalty, which unfortunately they were unable to convert. Phoenix continued to play confindently and it was hard to tell the team was down 2 players. Another short corner was awarded to Phoenix, Emily Whipps ball went out to the top of the circle and was slipped to Abby Swannell who put a cracking shot into the corner of the goal. Phoenix were ahead! This seemed to shock Chelmsford into action and quickly from the push back they outnumbered us on the break and had scored an equaliser. Phoenix fought on with Emily Whipps and Amy Kennedy working hard to try and keep the ball up front. Unfortunately, Chelmsford left one of their extra players goal hanging and eventually they managed to get a ball through to her to put them ahead.
In the second half Phoenix continued to work hard to try and get an equaliser. They had a short corner shot deflected by the defender just wide of the post but they were under increasing pressure as Chelmsford came forward often outnumbering the defence but some great saves by Sylvie Reynolds and the hard work of the team kept Chelmsford out until finally they managed to score a third. Phoenix didn't give up and continued to work hard until the final whistle went. A great team effort!
