Match Report

Match Report - 22 Oct 2011, Phoenix Hockey Club Ladies 2nd XI lost to Maldon & Little Baddow 2

Our game against Maldon is always a closely fought contest and the score line doesn't really reflect the game.

The game started quite evenly but Maldon managed to get an early goal from a well worked short corner routine. Phoenix pushed on but were unable to convert in the final third and before they knew it Maldon had converted another short corner routine. Phoenix pushed on and Sophie Summers and Faye Taylor almost converted their opportunities on either post.

The second half was quite scrappy, unlike the last few weeks, the game didn't really flow and when it did it was Maldon who were able to string the passes together. Depsite the best efforts of the defence Maldon converted yet another short corner routine. Phoenix weren't going to give up and continued to push on, with a shot clipping the post and a few attempts nearly making it over the line. Phoenix did score a goal but it was disallowed by the umpire who thought it was outside the area and missed the Maldon foot on the into the goal. It just wasn't going to be Phoenix day and we now look to our home fixture next week for a better result.

Unlucky everyone, we'll do better on the return fixture with Maldon!
