They created some chances but were unable to convert them. Phoenix started to play and were able to push forward themselves. Emily Whipps making some great runs down the right but we were just unable to get the ball in the goal. Both teams created chacnes and had a string of short corners but it was Old Southendian who took the lead in the first half.
Phoenix came out fighting in the second half, Mel Cacace was soon putting the Old Southendian defence under pressure and Sue Hartley was able to slot the ball passed the goalkeeper to level up the game. Phoenix tried to push on but the majority of the play was in Phoenix own half. The team battled hard to prevent Old Southendian from taking the league, they did create chances but were unable to convert them. 4 minutes before the end of the game Old Southendian managed to get a ball to the far post, and there attacker managed to put it over the line, winning the game for Old Southendian.
