Phoenix Hockey Club was founded from two clubs Braintree Hockey Club and Dunmow Hockey Club during the summer of 2009. 

Following a average to poor 2008/09 season, both clubs individually came to the conclusion that to keep hockey going in these areas, some form of merger was required with another club and so Darren Webb on behalf of Dunmow contacted Chris Card from Braintree for the first tentative steps in the eventual birth of Phoenix Hockey Club.Through a lot of hard work from a number of people 4 Men’s team’s, 3 Ladies Teams, 1 Mixed team, 2 Ladies Indoor teams and a Junior section known as Blue Hornets commenced season 2009/10.
